Let's see. My Mac right now has 12 virtual desktops (via a free add-on) and my Linux has 5 (weaker machine). I am still moving my windows around all the time.
BTW, my Mac is a at least 3 years old, has a simple AGP card, and does not use QE. Window updating is still much faster then with my Linuxes, even the ones on newer machines with better graphic cards.
