Since I was the one to set up http://linuxil.objectis.net/, maybe I should explain.

The idea was to provide a medium for community driven content. A wiki is an example of such a medium, but in this case - its a Plone. The pros and cons of Plone w.r.t. Wiki are that it is more structured. Never mind the technical details (which you can find at http://plone.org).

Plone allows hierarchical structure, user access management and diverse functions and applications - such as forums, msging, news rolls, event calendar, document life cycle, photo albums, etc.
On the other hand, it imposes restrictions (which could be bent) and editing isn't as quick as on a wiki. E.g., you can't link to a page and then create it.

I made (or at least I think I did) some sections editable by all members, and others only by verified members. The idea was to have a fixed high-level structure, with open contributions along the leaves. I can change that, and make the whole thing editable by all members. There's also a Plone / Zope based Wiki, called ZWiki, which I can try to install on the system.

As Orna mentioned, there hasn't been a lot of community activity here. I can see several possible reasons:
1. Hardly anyone noticed the existence of this site.
2. Contributing is too tedious, a wiki would be better.
3. There is no need for such a tool

I seriously doubt 3, but think its a combination of 1 & 2. As for visibility (and the relationship with other tribal gathering places) I would be more than happy to drop this project altogether in favour of a similar platform hosted by one of the bigger camp fires (e.g. iglu, watsup, etc.)

As for the medium. For non-technical crowds, I've found Plone more appealing. Maybe for this lot a Wiki would be better. On the other hand, this system does have its nice spots.

By the way, since I don't have a server to host this on, I'm using Objectis' free hosting service. A fully owned & controlled plone can be twisted & turned much nicer.

best,

- Yishay

We already have an Israeli linux wiki, where not so many people

such things, I suggest combining forces rather than splitting.

Is it really a wiki ? because it doesn't seem to be editable even for registered users. the most that I can do is create new pages under my "member home page". this is not the most useful format for collaberation.
I probably missed something.
