debian has the alien package which can import rpm and tgz packages into debs so
that you can install them using dpkg. Its recomended only if the package is not
a critical one and is not available as a deb as there is a problem with library
naming some of the time. I used to have more problems installing red hat rpms on
mandrake though then using alien.
