Because you are telling it to go to $MAIL/mbox it is going there. Tell it
to go to $MAIL or $MAIL/any_folder - thats all.

Something is funny. Send me yr procmailrc again - I deleted yr old mail.

Reinstall it from the rpm - something's broken.
