Run "dmesg" and check for the foll string -

ACPI: "ASUS" found at 0x000f7ff0
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.13)
apm: overridden by ACPI.

IF u get this, u are OK.

NOTE: ACPI is available only in 2.3 series!

On RHL 6.1 it is default.

There are not many issues with Linux APM drivers and most distros
do come with APM support included in the stock kernel. I am sure
SuSE would too. Run dmesg to find out.
