Hi Folks,
Back after a big e-holiday :-) Finally I have been able to get X running
muh machine i.e. an IBM PC300Gl with Acceleration. Wooohoooooooooo!
It's party time. Now I feel the rush of Adrenalin to do anything on
muh machine. So anybody feeling adventorous in compiling Xfree86 4.0.
I am putting the details for getting Xfree86 up on an machine (
specifically IBM PC300GL with S3 Trio3D card )
Remember before asking any questions that these are on a Debian
Machine :-)
Here they go
1. Download the X400src-1/2/3.tgz from ftp://ftp.xfree86.org
2. Get the patch xf4patch.txt from http://www.debian.org/~branden/xf4patch.txt
3. Unpack it (tar xzf X400src-?.tgz)
4. Patch it (patch -p0 <xf4patch.txt)
5. cd to xc
6. Change ProjectRoot in config/cf/site.def to /usr/local/X11R6 (I wanted
to keep my old X, just in case)
7. make World (This took around 65mins on a PII-400, 45 on a K6-III 450
and 65mins on a PIII 550)
8. backup /etc/X11/XF86Config and /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
9. make install
10. restore /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc
11. change the first line in /etc/X11/Xserver to /usr/local/X11R6/bin/X
12. run /usr/local/X11R6/bin/xf86config
that was it for my ThinkPad, but the other to systems wanted more
13. run /usr/local/X11R6/bin/X -configure
14. test this config
15. merge ~/XF86Config.new and /etc/X11/XF86Config into something usefull
Have fun.
BTW I had a look at the statistics and found out that I had the lowest
noise :-) Now don't I feel good ? :-)
Thanks
Regards
- Khader " The accelerated Enlightenment junkie " Vali
P.S: In case any one wants my Xf86Config file, mail me personally.
