oh, u think the tri-level cache is BS? i think u ought ta brush up on u're tech
concepts pretty soon. i think shanu has already told that the athlon is the equivalent
of a piii. the fact that k6-3 was released when p3 was released doesn't make any
difference. AMD was late to bring out its competitor as against the p2. the piii,
esp. the copermine, kix Athlon's ass anyday. 3dnow, MMX, SSE, katmai, all these
do make a difference, but that's not much as compared to the raw clock speed of
the processors.
and as far as 3dnow goes, all it can be used in is in the video card drivers, to
accelerate them too. unless u've got a good 3d accelerator, u're not gonna see
any FPS i u're games. all u're gonna get is SFP (secs. per frame). heh. w/o
a 3d card u'll be needing a beowulf to do u're rendering.

i think its better that u dont elaborate more. either u haven't seen a copermine
performing, or u've been living in a cave all this while long. the copermine
justifies the higher price. have u thought about SMP at all? Athlon doesn't do
any _reliable_ SMP. even a dual celeron system will beat an Athlon anyday. I'm
not saying that the Athlon hasn't got stuff, but the PIII is better off, if u're
willing to pay the extra moolah. IIRC, Athlons have a bit of RISC in them. Have
u seen the similarity between the arch. of an Athlon and a 68000?

now u're really off! savage is an S3 card. and voodoo cards are from 3dfx. the
last i heard, they're 2 _different_ companies. and NVIDIA is the OSS nightmare.u say
3dfx's days are over eh? i wonder why the V5 6000 manages to kick even NVIDIA's
latest GeForce 2's ass. have u even heard of the ATI Radeon 256? as for the
"tweak" u mention in the Creative TNT2 cards, its just an emulater for the glide
instruction set, which is available for any card that does D3D. glide is on the
downhill ride, its support is not very important t'day. But if u've seen glide
in all its glory on _original_ 3dfx cards, u'll see the difference in quality
and clarity. i think ppl. need to dig out _facts_ before they say anything.
Nikhil.
