dear jiju
after reading your experiences with the helpdesk
and webmaster mail i am hardly surprised
i have very strange experiences from eth helpdesk
basically i was facing problems while logon with eth
my password was getting rejected at the time of logon
but when i tried immidiately dialing to vsnl and got connected successfully
the same moment i used my mail client to check mails from eth and downloaded
the mails
with the same password...immidiatly i tried logging on to eth but same
errors
clearly indicating the communication between the RAS device and the user
database was lost. but the fact that i told the eth guys what was the prob
but they
couldn't do anything.......
next day i could log in properly with the same password
the same thing happened to 3-4 of my clients on different occasions
but my querries are still unanswered
without knowing the make of client's modem they start suggesting the modem
strings.....
and you can imagine the kind of loop customer will go into if he is using
USrobotics and receives strings of
boca modem as a "help"
another day i was having some problem i had to dial the helpdesk
and they immidiately asked me to open control panel and when i told them
that i was using linux
and they were not able to talk a single word and explained that they are not
supporting linux
this was the last time i ever called helpdesk about linux......
recently i heard they have employed some people for the helpdesk duties who
know a bit abt linux
that seems to be a good move by them.....
i have never called up satyam cos the connection is so poor that there is
hardly any point in connecting to satyam in pune
btw as far as my information goes....eth is using MCIS for their internet
services and mcis mail is
is FULLY pop3 compliant
so you should not face any problems
only thing is the server might be adding some header which fetchmail is not
able to decode
so try to solve the problem by properly examining the header
rgds
