Hi,
That is b'cos `ls <dirname>` would list the contents of the directory, not
the directory entry in the current directory and when U type `ls *` at the
prompt, it is changed to `ls <file1> <file2> <dir1> etc etc...` and
therefore the directory entries will appear.
