I think we have resolved most of the Trident problems till 1999 middle.
When 3D image draw cards started giving problems. Seems some specs
changed and were undocumented anywhere. So Linux drivers/servers did
face problems in starting. Binand would know more about Trident.

display problem that you are facing is not because of the monitor
as monitor is just a display device. While configuration is on,
do select 50-120 and 61.3 KHz [or whatever the horiz range is]
Use XF*^Setup if you feel like and do not set memclk or any
other setting.
