Good one. I repeat the answer that I get from the list for the same problem. Get
hedricks patches from www.kernel.org/pub/linux. I think it's ine people/hedrick
directory. Compile them in kernel and DMA will be enabled. This is becaure stock
kernel can not use your chipset(probably).

I hope this solution works for you. I could not try this on my machine as it's in
some other trouble. It can not compile kernel... :-))

anyway since you are using Seagate 4.3GB HDD ( Which I recently traded with a
Quantum HDD), what are figures with 'hdparm -tT /dev/hda'? If you get anything
more than 8MBps (even without DMA) then  it's fine enough. I didn't get anything
more than 10MBps on Celeron 400, with DMA.
