Check bios and disable DMA for ide drives till you compile hedricks patch. If you keep
using machine like this for long, it might result in serious corruption of file
system. I was forced for a reinstall due to same problem. A very rar case  but can
happen at times...

BTW, check whether your HDD is in LBA mode. It should be. Because the speeds you are
quoting here are bit less for that model of Seagate..
