Hi,

Nice to hear that my Oracle HOWTO was useful to somebody. Great !!!.

I am also new to oracle ( especially oracle for linux ). Since My machine is 166MHZ
MMX, the performance of Oracle is very very Slllooow. I am not using it. It is just
lying in one of the partitions.

Regarding your query. I think Oracle database is not mounted hence you get the error.
First you have to mount the database and then try to login say using sqlplus.

You have to do the following to mount the database ( I have put this in my HOWTO ) :

<SNIP>

The Oracle Server should be running. If not, you can start it with the following
commands:

svrmgrl
connect internal
startup
quit

<SNIP>

I don't know how to put this stuff in startup script so that Oracle database is
automounted on startup. Never tried that since Mounting of Oracle takes hell of a time
on my PC.

Fellow listers may be able to help you in this.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Rajesh
