Hi all,
Last week I have installed RH Linux 6.2 on AMD k6 II 500 machine.
Till yesterday it was working fine. Yesterday I was trying out different
configurations for resolutions for X-Windows. and after that I shutdown
the machine as usual. But today morning when I started the machine, it
gave me login promt for a while (1-2 secs) and then the monitor started
blinking. It showed me all the initial messages without blinking. I
tried to type the usename, but couldn't do it. So I pressed
Ctrl+Alt+Del, and then the display was normal, showed me all shutdown
messages without blinking. But again after bootup same thing.
I tried booting the machine from floppy, but the floppy went for a
toss, so couldn't get into. So next step I tried was to boot in single
user mode (i.e. at LILO : Linux single). It worked perfectly there. I
could execute commands from there. I made boot floppy in single user
mode and tried to boot from floppy. But same thing repeated.
Graphics card is Trident 3D Image 975. The machine works fine in
windows NT. So I guess there is not a problem with the display card.
What could be the problem ? any pointers ?
