checked out the doc. and i am absolutely sure it was 748.75 only. but there is
a problem now. i have a K7 and not a K6. and the doc says that is should clock
* 1.0
that means, my original value was correct and something funny is going on now?
any explanation/guess as to y this might have happened?

think you neednt worry. That doc says for k6 family the bogomips should be
around twice the clock speed, so you are ok. About jumping 2 times
overnite are you sure it was the bogomips which was 748 and not the cpu
clock?
