I did a chmod u+s on kppp and faced the same problem as you say. BUt fixed
it by giving read permission to some file ( i dont remeber which ) to all.
I remember managing to deduce the filename from the kppp error logs. So
have a look at them

i love them more when the peaks hit high ;) but i do wonder why the
netscape's speed report dont match that of kppload even during constant
sustained speed. Usually netscapes' is lower.
