yes when i kill and then restart pppd thru wvdial it
becomes ok but every time i reboot it starts pppd due
to my use of the script given by suse at the url below
http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/hoe_wv_dod_start.html
i was trying it out to implement dial on demand but it
starts the ppd with the wrong parameters (see script)
i.e Local_IP="192.168.99.1"
Remote_IP="192.168.99.99"
which can never work with vsnl!
the offending part of the script seems to be:
# start pppd in demand mode
PPPPDPARAMS="$Local_IP:$Remote_IP $Modem
$Baud modem crtscts $DEFAULTROUTE -detach user
$Username ipcp-accept-local ipcp-accept-remote call
wvdial demand idle $Idle"
MESSAGE="starting pppd $PPPPDPARAMS
connect \"/usr/bin/wvdial --chat $WVPARAMS\"... "
pppd $PPPPDPARAMS connect "/usr/bin/wvdial
--chat $WVPARAMS" &>/dev/null &
PPPDPID=$!
i read somewhere that if we make
Local_IP="0.0.0.0"
Remote_IP="0.0.0.0" then the values will
be assigned dynamically.i have to try changing the
script for that.Till then i guess i have to be happy
with manually starting and stopping pppd.so i have
deleted the links to
sbin/init.d/rc2.d/S20wvdial.dod etc.
