if i'm not wrong, the directory size 0 is only seen on /proc, that too
after the proc is "mounted".

let me just shoot of something at the cost of looking stupid! ;-)
(a) chek if "misc" is a mount point for something from ur /etc/fstab.
(b) chek if the root is mounted readonly.
(c) as sreangsu sugestion chek out the "file /misc".

u can even try booting from a bootdisk and cheking the partition for any
errors.

just my 4 cents.
