You're right.  That's how it is on my system too.

No.  It is not a mount point.

I don't think so.  my fstab shows only /mnt/cdrom as ro

It shows:   misc: directory

... and I think that is normal as it does for the other directories too.

u can even try booting from a bootdisk and cheking the partition for any
errors.

I will try this and see if it works!
