Anyway, from your mail, you have a 486 CPU, and RHL 6.1/6.2 is not compiled for the
older processors (min 586).
So you would not be able to upgrade the entire distribution.
Yes, you can do partial upgrades. Upgrading just the compiler is possible.
rpm -U (pr rpm -F) will do the trick. man rpm for details.
