Hi
When the problem occurs, type the command
dmesg
and see whether any errors are reported. Also give
ifconfig eth0
& look for the field 'errors:'.
I was having problems with eepro100 on a lot of Compaq machines. I'm yet
to identify the problem. I guess it must be a bug in the driver, as it's
happening in all the (about 15/20) machines. Since it happens only once in
a while, I'vnt checked it seriously.
