Thanks Philip, Suresh, Chetu. Sorry for the delay in responding. I was out
of station of the last 3 days.

There was some problem at our ISP server. Hence I could not use wvdial for
script based connectivity. It was not working. Hence for getting the
terminal login I was using kppp and I faced the ppp module problem.

Today I just tried to load ppp module manualy and here is what I got :

----------------------------------------------------------------
suselinux:~ # insmod ppp
Using /lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_init
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_free
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_uncompress
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_toss
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_remember
/lib/modules/2.2.16/net/ppp.o: unresolved symbol slhc_compress
suselinux:~ #
----------------------------------------------------------------

What is this slhc module ?

Due to the above error ppp module is not loaded. However after starting
kppp if I give lsmod I can see ppp and slhc modules loaded.

I tried loading both these modules manually.

lsmod slhc
lsmod ppp

That works fine. But even after loading both these modules I get the kernel
not compiled with ppp support message in kppp. But Internet connectivity
works.

Now from today our ISP has rectified their faults and now I am back to
wvdial. However I am still curious about the above things.

Suresh, you said about make_modules etc. But kernel compilation has not
taken place at all. Suse has just upgraded the kernel during upgradation
using yast.

Warm Regards

Rajesh
