i don't think the internal modem you have works with Linux.
anyway you can use wvdial to dial the ISP. run wvdialconf first. this should be
done as root.
if you want to upgrade the kernel, you can download the same from windows and
mount the windows partition from linux and copy it you linux partition.
eg
mount -t vfat /dev/hda /dosc mounts C: on the directory /dosc. create /dosc
directory first. note that if you are creating the directory under / you must
be logged in as root
