No need to reboot. That is the problem with XFree < 4 servers on 810
motherboard. The problem has been sorted out in XFree 4.

I faced the same problem. Some of the listers who faced the same problem helped
me out with this. Now I am on XFree 4 on SuSE 7 and no such problems :-).

The workaround is to put more than one modeline in XF86Config and cycle through
by pressing control+alt+'+' and the screen again will become normal again.
