Not part of Potato. Installed the individual debs using dpkg separatly.

Doubts are clear.
apt-get is a command based front end to dpkg.

Yes.

Does that mean if I install a package using dpkg(no dselect) the apt-get
cache is not syncronised ?

If I try to install say some package from potato CD's using apt-get than it
gives me some error like <that package .deb not found or something like that>,
however with dpkg the package isntalls fine.

Yes. For this purpose dselect is useful.

The problem with X configuration on potato for my i810 was that the kernel
2.2.17 given with potato does not include agpgart module. Since 2.2.16 kernel
was with agpgart module I thought the same would apply to 2.2.17. But it was
not so.
I got kernel 2.4 sources and compiled on my machine with agpgart support etc.
Than I copied my XF86Config file from SuSE 7 here. I will try dexter. Is it
part of potato.
Thanks a lot.
Warm Regards
