hello ,
well last week i had put up my question regarding the update of the kernel.but somehow
i could not get any clues as i did not know how to compile kernels etc.
i'll state my problem afresh :-
I have installed RH6.2 from the pcquest cd.i have an i810 type motherboard.so i found
out that i have to upgrade my kernel to 2.2.16 which is to be done by the pcquest cd.
now that i have got the cd and i am entering the command

mount /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/cdrom/linux/kernel

rpm -ivh--force kernel-smp-2.2.16-3.i686.rpm

i get the output:
bash :rpm:command not found

as instructed by some i also did :

whereis rpm

i got

rpm is in /usr/include/rpm

i have gone in that directory also and typed the same command but i got the same
result

i also tried the command

rpm -UvhF package.rpm

but the same result .
kindly suggest the complete remedy.
thanking you in anticipation.
Apurva
