Sorry I was not clear. Linuxtelephony aims to support the telephony card
(mainly by quicknet) which is required for setting up a internet to phone
gateway. The card is not required if you want to place a call to a normal
phone from your PC over the internet. Actually the card is not required
for the gateway also, but it makes compression etc in hardware and
improves performance (besides the fact that the GSM compression is
patented so it'd better be buried in hardware rather than in open source).
So what happens to the Linux user who wants to make a long distance call
over the internet? (someone suggested me to buy a PC and install windows)
