that's true, I still fail to see why a modem can't do the same work. If
you're interested maybe you can help providing telephone to internet
interface in India. I'm not sure how legal it is so please check out. But
even if it's used on a shareware basis, it should be great for a lot of
people who are unable to make long distance (STD and ISD) calls. Probably
Internet to telephone interface in India will not have any legal issues
tied to it (for DoT earns a rupee every 3 minutes). And with large areas
now being covered with local call rates, I'd rather that some voluntary
organisation (and remember that most of these h323 servers run
Linux) starts operating before the sharks come in. If comeone can spare
some old boxes and can work out the local call payment processes, this can
possibly be done too. Are you interested, or is there anyone else who is?

will check this out. LinuxTelephony and openh323 say that gsm is
patented. (also lj)
