hi,

  before carrying my RHL cd to a friends place for installation I wan t to
check whether its OK. Basically some sort of a surface scan. Anyway of
doing it.
  I did the following
   cat /dev/cdrom |wc -c
  and compared the results after running a couple of times. I couldnt
think of otherways.
