I'm not into epidemiological studies but the Indian Statistical Institute
(Calcutta) is doing some work on Demographics and they use Linux. Also
Stanford was supposed to start something like that.

A search on google revealed these:

http://linkage.rockefeller.edu/soft/list.html
http://www.fortranlib.com/freesoft.htm

<and lots more>

You might also be able to find some resources at the NIH pages (more like
molecular epidemiology)

PS: were you at the MEEGID-5 (Mol Epid and Evol Gen of Infec Diseases) at
Hyderabad in November ?
