looked up redhats SCSI support page.
http://www.redhat.com/support/manuals/RHL-6.1-Manual/ref-guide/s1-modules-scsi.html

It lists a module called aha1740.o. So if you can load it from a
virtual terminal i.e <ctrl><alt><f1> with modprobe aha1740, things should
work. You might need to give the full path though.

  I was hunting for an effective bootprompt to do the above but found none
exists for i740
