        Forget it !!! Kanitkar's book is heavily dos based, and lives in 
the past... You will have to unlearn a lot to come to mainstream.

If u are keen on learning it the easy way, I would recommend the book by
Balaguruswamy... You can then upgrade to Schaum Series book on C, and
finally K&R for reference.

        And mind it... C's not just what is written in all these
books. The best place to learn C is sourceforge.net Just download some
interesting project source and go through it. I am sure you will be
enlightened.
