The thing I love about Balaguruswamy's books is that the book he writes for
BASIC has just the same examples he uses for C, Java etc etc (print a pyramid
of asterisks, piglatin generator <or was that the Schaum series favorite?>
etc).  So the learning curve is _very_ gentle (but comprehensive).

He also knows not to jump from topic to topic but take you along slowly ...
excellent for newbies.
