The O'Reilly "bat" book (Allman, Costales and Rickert) is for sendmail 8.8.8
- fairly outdated now, but definitely worth a look. Much more recent docs in
doc/op/op.ps in the sendmail source tree (or the sendmail-doc rpm in
redhat)

If you think majordomo is a hassle, install and use gnu/mailman (from
www.list.org) instead. Maintaining lists etc is not sendmail's job
