experience about the number of people who told me to chuck out this modem

The lister who had posted the problem has a pctel hsp56k micromodem which IS
a "linmodem"(the quotes were put intentionally to stress that.)If you are

The procedure i mentioned IS for the pctel chipset which the original lister
has got

there exist drivers for Conexant/Rockwell HSF chipset at
http://www.olitec.com/pci56kv2.html (as mentioned in the Linmodem-HOWTO).I
don't know about motorola.
