Unless you ask ppp to transact for the DNS it doesnt. ( i forget the exact
ppp -option )

pap secrets editing becomes necessary, if your ISP uses pap, because ppp
takes the passwds from there. As far as resolv.conf goes, it does not
touch mine. May be you run ppp with the options to get the dns server
through the transaction. Disable that, and you should be fine.
