hey i just did a install on i810 box and it is ok.

Xconfigurator?? dump it. check your
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file and go to the
screen section and set the resolution there.
install XFree86 4.0.3 with 3D accel ok! it will work
fine.
hey dont reinstall stuff like that.
