it seems yiu are having a torrid time. Your problem should be fairly
simple.
i) theres a valid mode for 21" display, so x starts with such, in which
case you should delete it.
ii) Or set up a virtual view port size.
do one thing, send the dump of:
X :1 &>/tmp/xlog and the XF86Config. I guess you can send it offline. I am
having a torrid time myself ( wholly different reasons ) but might as well
give your thing a look
