This will create problems, cos overwriting the /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow will surely change the root passwd. If you have already overwritten the files then enter into linux single mode and edit /etc/passwd remove 'x' from the root line that goes something like this root:x:0:0..... note:the x between (:) do not remove the (:)s.
