hi,

but to be able to do that, I need to get into the machine after it starts up
and that is not the case.

The machine starts up successfully, and checks all the hardware, partition
table and then after autorun, it stops, screaming about kernel panic,

here are the last few lines produced verbatim as to what the machine
actually says:
----------------
Partition check
HDC: [PTBL] [124/255/63] hdc1 hdc2 hdc3 <hdc5 hdc6 hdc7 hdc8 hdc9>
autodetecting RAID range.....
....autorun DONE
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 16:00
----------------

and it stops hereafter not able to move an millimeter further, and appending
to lilo.conf is ruled until I log in.

Please help.

regards

Amit Bhargava
