Here is what I did to compile my mplayer,
I removed gcc 2.96-xx, cpp 2.96-xx and the related packages, then
installed gcc,cpp,gpp etc(ver 2.95) from suse 7.2, then I was able to
compile the mplayer without any fuss, while with gcc 2.96 I got some errors
with mmx modules.
I still seem to have some prob. though, when I use mplayer to watch
movies the movies are very slow in full screen 'gl' mode. If I try using x11
libs then the movie is not completely full screen, I think my hardware is
enough to play some movies :-) , I have AMD-k6-II 450Mhz with SIS-530
mobo(On board AGP with shared video ram 8MB) and 256M SDRAM(less 8MB shared)
can anybody point me to the right direction as how to get around this
problem. I am using RH 7.1(not PCQ).

problem compiling it on my pcq-linux 7.1.Later I came to know that it
doesn't install due to the buggy gcc-2.96 compiler.I have also considered
upgrading it to gcc-3.0,but,I found out most of the kde-applications fail to
work.Is there any way out to install it with the gui support on my existing
distro.
