Your local lan is behind NAT right?  Just use configure your ftp client to
use passive ftp.  From a linux box you can give the pasv / passive command
(ncftp etc clients support it).

Or else in cuteftp or other windows ftp clients it is a checkbox you have to
tick in the options menu.
