Please note the development model of Debian GNU. This is a co-operative
and user driven distribution which does not depend on a Corporate
entity. Unlike RedHat, 'non-free' components/software is kept separate
and is not bundled alongwith the Official release. Users may run into
trouble if 'non-free' stuff is modified and re-distributed, so very
careful consideration should go into, when software is deployed across a
multitude of locations.

Some Debian developers' have back-ported the latest stuff onto the
'stable' versions; the issue of not keeping pace with the "the latest
and greatest software" is a myth. This is not recommended though !

Even-though there are roughly 8695 packages in the development 'Sid'
tree, you will only be asked to find space for 40-70 MB on your
hard-disk unlike RedHat which requires a minimum of 400 MB.

To sum it all, I would say that Debian is the dream of a Network
Engineer/Manager with its elaborate 'tool set'.
