2. what does NAV / trend micro etc software have to do with this?  All you
tell it is that the change in the boot record is expected, and not to restore
the old MBR.  I used to use a dual boot machine (a linux which started as
suse 6.3 ... + win 95 for my parents).  The win box has had varying versions
of norton antivirus for quite some time (over the past two years or so)
