I too have the same CD-ROM and due to dma enabling by default in PCQLinux 7.1 the problem occurs. Please put the following in your startup scripts : (/etc/init.d/rc.local) /sbin/hdparm -d0 /dev/hdx where x is the device for your CD-ROM. Now the things should work fine.
