Friends,

I have a problem related to installation of RH7.2 server on my
Intel L440GX motherboard dual processor with onboard Adaptec AIC-7896 based
SCSI host adapter. The RH7.2 Installation program detects that there is an
AIC-7xxx based SCSI bus on the board, tries to load the required kernel
module
(aic7xxx.o).

(My SCSI hard disk has SCSI id: 4)

The module never loads successfully and there are timeout
errors like this:
===========================

SCSI: pid 4675, aborting command due to timeout scsi 0, id 0, lun 0 0x12 00
00 00 ff 00
SCSI: pid 4675, aborting command due to timeout scsi 0, id 0, lun 0 0x12 00
00 00 ff 00
SCSI: pid 4675, aborting command due to timeout scsi 0, id 1, lun 0 0x12 00
00 00 ff 00
SCSI: pid 4675, aborting command due to timeout scsi 0, id 1, lun 0 0x12 00
00 00 ff 00
...
<4> (scsi0:0:4:0) SCSISIGI 0xe4, SEQADDR 0x37, SSTAT0 0x0, SSTAT1 0x2
<4> (scsi0:0:4:0) SG_CACHEPTR 0x2 SSTAT2 0x0 STCNT 0x0

(* something happens on scsi id 4)

<4> SCSI host 0channel 0 reset (pid 0) timed out -trying harder
<4> SCSI Bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0
<4> SCSI host 0 abort (pid 0) timedout -resetting.

....
...
etc

==========================
and the system hangs! ( the logs are hand written sorry for mistakes!)

The same machine works fine with RH6.2 ( I mean it detects the SCSI
controller and SCSI disks by automatically loading the aic7xxx kernel
module. The module loads successfully which previously failed in RH7.2)

I tried putting an IDE disk and installing RH6.2/7.2 on it but with no luck.

I thought of following steps:
1) Installing RH6.2 on IDE together with SCSI not being used.
2) downloading latest stable kernel sources ( from where? will it support
RH7.2 installer?)
3) compiling them with different kernel compile options (which ones?)
4) using lilo boot disk to boot the required kernel which supports this
Adaptec 7896 SCSI bus while installaiton ( possible? how?)
5) finally install RH7.2 on SCSI
6) Remove IDE disks.

Am I right in approach?

The problem is that I want RH7.2 how should I go about the
installation/detection of SCSI etc?

Any help would be priceless
