nope. like shanu says, it's a separate programme. and for certain tasks
a much better one than cdrecord.

did it! i got the idea that maybe i should try to turn on the ide-scsi
simulation not only for the cdrw (which i had already done), but for the
cdrom too. i was doubtful, because i never saw this mentioned anywhere.
i even wrote to the fellow who wrote cdrdao, but he hasn't replied yet.
then shanu's suggestion confirmed my idea, and it turned out that that
was the answer. added ide-scsi simulation for hdc(cdrom) in addition to
hdd(cdrw) in lilo.conf and re-ran lilo. rebooted. i had a new scsi
device! just a few minor changes to be made, including re-directing the
symlink /dev/cdrom (needed for eject, cdp and mplayer in my case).
cdrdao is working perfectly now, with cd-to-cd copy (any cd to any cd,
including vcd-s) and everything else. follow the above steps and
download cdrdao, and you'll be able to copy vcd-s.
the commandline i now use for cd-to-cd copy is (will wrap):

<snip>

cdrdao copy -n --source-device /dev/scd0 --source-driver generic-mmc
--device /dev/scd1 --driver generic-mmc --on-the-fly --speed 8

</snip>

if you add the "--save" option to the above commandline, most important
options like devices, drivers, speed etc. will be saved to ~/.cdrdao,
and you won't need to mention them on subsequent uses.

haven't needed to try out the multisession option yet. i heard there was
an issue about cdrecord not being able to do it with the 2.4 series of
kernels. resulting cd-s were bad or something. what about cdrdao? shanu,
can it be done? i'll try if you say yes.
