If rp3 is merely a frontend, typing in wvdial from the command line
would also get you on the net. This file /etc/resolv.conf is needed
by chat scripts as well.  This can be manually set, instead of get-
ting into bad habits of depending on some tool for admining jobs.

I do not know of rp3.  For manual config,  DNS-Howto and  PPP-Howto 
maybe a starting point (perhaps a bit confusing  initially though). 
You may need to do some RTFM.
