As long as you know what you are looking for ... you can find all the data on the partition.. I once deleted my inbox on a reiserfs partition.. and since there are no undelete utilities for reiserfs I had to recover the stuff this way.. with some help from dd and grep I managed to get almost all my deleted mail back. It's easier to retrieve text files than binary ones.
