The only problem with debian is this. potato is rock stable, but some of
the packages are ancient. For ex. : XFree, KDE etc. Though you get all the
new stuff in woody, on dial-up in India it is not possible to download that
stuff. You can upgrade max say one or two big packages - XFree etc.

Remedy is to configure your X with framebuffer.

I use icewm with rox-filer. Combination is deadly. With rox-filer you can
put shortcuts on your desktop and rox-filer has got lot of cool stuff.
Including preview of images.
